What's my age again?

It is so refreshing to see people act their age.

Es tan refrescante ver a gente actuar de su edad. 

About a month ago, the latest Sofia Coppola movie “The Bling Ring” appeared on my Netflix as a “recently added” so naturally I dropped everything I was doing and watched it. I liked it but I still wanted to know what the critics thought of it so I went to Rotten Tomatoes and as I thought, it had mixed reviews. 

Hace un mes aproximadamente la última película de Sofia Coppola "The Bling Ring" apareció en mi Netflix como "agregados recientemente" así que naturalmente deje todo lo que estaba haciendo y la vi. Me gustó pero aún quería saber que pensaban los críticos de ella así que fui a Rotten Tomatoes  y como pensé, tenia criticas variadas.

The best thing to me was the music, it really helped to create the moments. I looked up the soundtrack and it was full of girly gangsta songs and some other cool electronic tunes all totally suitable for dancing which is always a plus. I already mentioned my favorite one “Bad Girls” from M.I.A. in a post, it has that gangsta girl quality that I mentioned two seconds ago. The songs are perfect for a movie about teenage girls -and boy- that enter celebrities homes to take their Birkins. 

Lo mejor para mi fue la música, de verdad ayudó a crear los momentos. Busque la banda sonora y estaba llena de canciones canciones gángster para niñas y otras canciones electrónicas, todas totalmente adecuadas para bailar lo cual siempre es un plus. Ya mencioné mi canción favorita "Bad Girls" de M.I.A. en una entrada, tiene esa cualidad de chica delincuente que mencioné hace dos segundos.  Las canciones son perfectas para una película sobre chicas adolescentes -y un chico- que entran a las casas de las celebridades para llevarse sus Birkins.

Another thing that I really enjoyed was seen teenagers play teenagers. The whole cast -except from Emma Watson who is 23 years old- are real life teenagers and you can actually see the difference in comparison to other films where 34 year olds play high schoolers. Refreshing. In my opinion, it helped to convey the whole “these are kids and they are spoiled, stupid and careless” aura of the film.

Otro aspecto que realmente disfrute fue ver adolescentes actuar como adolescentes. Todo el reparto -excepto Emma Watson que tiene 23 años- son adolescentes en la vida real y de verdad podes ver la diferencia en comparación con otros filmes donde actores de 34 años salen de jóvenes en bachillerato. En mi opinión, ayudó a transmitir toda la aura de "estos son niños y están mimados, estúpidos y despreocupados".

The film is based on an article from Vanity Fair "The Suspects wore Louboutins" Read the article, if you like, to learn about these teenagers who were so obsessed  with the celebrity lifestyle that felt like they needed to have the same things they did, the exact same things, their things. After watching the movie and reading the article it really got me thinking about how obsessed some of us are with the celebrity lifestyle not to the point of stealing but I’ve seen people be so into it to the point of been immersed in debt. 

El film esta basado en un articlo de la revista Vanity Fair "Los sospechosos usaban Louboutins" (en inglés) Lean el artículo, si quieren, para conocer acerca de estos adolescentes que estaban tan obsesionados con el estilo de vida de las celebridades que sintieron la necesidad de tener las mismas cosas que ellos tenían, exactamente las mismas, las de ellos. Después de ver la película y leer el artículo de verdad me puse a pensar acerca de cuan obsesionados estamos algunos de nosotros con el estilo de vida de las celebridades, no al punto de robar pero he visto personas tan obsesionadas al punto de sumergirse en deudas. 

It’s so unrealistic sometimes, who has $2,300 to buy the cheapest of Chanel Bags?  Frankly, even if I could afford it, I don’t think so. Nevertheless, we all fancy Chanel like we owned anything from the brand. (Even if you do, do you have many Chanel things and you constantly get new ones?) 

Es tan irrealista, ¿quién tiene $2,300 para comprar la cartera Chanel mas barata? Francamente, aunque la pudiera pagar, no lo creo. Sin embargo, todos gustamos de Chanel como que tuviéramos algo de la marca. (Aunque sea el caso, ¿tenes muchas cosas Chanel y estas constantemente comprando nuevas?)

We all want a tiny piece of that lifestyle and I’ll give you an example. I love YSL, I love the late designer, I love the brand, I even love his feud with Karl Lagerfeld. The Mondrian Dress anyone? Of course I don’t own any YSL couture but I did jump to the opportunity to buy a YSL Volupte Sheer Candy for $10 from a coworker. -Don’t worry it’s not fake, I did extensive research- It’s glides on the lips like butter and it smells so good. To make my point, I may not own a YSL bag but I own my little piece of lip balm candy and I like it that way. 

Todos queremos un pedazo del estilo de vida y les daré un ejemplo. Me encanta YSL, me gusta el difunto diseñador, la marca, hasta el feudo con Karl Lagerfeld. ¿El Vestido Mondrian les dice algo? Por supuesto que no poseo ninguna pieza couture de YSL pero no dude en comprar el YSL Volupte Sheer Candy por $10 a un compañero de trabajo. -No se preocupen es original hice una extensa investigación- Se desliza en los labios como mantequilla y huele tan bien. Mi punto es, puede que no tenga una cartera YSL pero poseo mi pequeño pedazo en forma de bálsamo de labios y lo prefiero así.

I rather have a YSL lip balm than owning one of those tacky Chanel fake bags and watches. Don’t get me wrong there is good counterfeit and super poorly made counterfeit that does not even count. My advice is, don’t buy a tacky fake Michael Kors bag, buy items that are inspired on the actual products. Stay away from the logo unless you are doing it like this: 

Prefiero tener un bálsamo de labios YSL que tener uno de esas carteras o relojes Chanel falsos de mal gusto. No me malinterpreten, hay buenas imitaciones e imitaciones de baja calidad que ni siquiera cuentan. Mi consejo, no compren una cartera falsa Michael Kors, compren artículos que estén inspirados en los productos originales. Manténganse alejados de los logos a menos que lo hagan así:

en tal caso, son mas increíbles de lo que pensaba. 

I think that luxury brand obsession can be healthy if kept as inspiration or small purchases. Please don’t spend the money you don’t have and keep it real.

Pienso que la obsesión con las marcas de lujo puede ser saludable si se mantiene como inspiración y pequeñas compras. Por favor no gasten el dinero que no tienen y manténganse reales.
